Lupin III VS Cat's Eye now available!
The second feature-length 3DCG Lupin III film is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video worldwide!
Lupin III VS. Cat’s Eye marks the first time both Monkey Punch’s long-running franchise has crossed over with the world of Tsukasa Hojo’s Cat’s Eye, a series which first hit manga stands in Japan during September 1981.
Since its inception in 1967, Lupin III has crossed over with a variety of different properties, including The Rose of Versailles and Detective Conan / Case Closed. This latest collaboration, however, is the first to receive a worldwide release straight out of the gate—hopefully a good sign of things to come for Lupin fans living abroad.
As part of this worldwide release, several audio dubs are available—including English—for fans to enjoy. The English dub features all the usual Lupin III suspects, including Tony Oliver, Richard Epcar, and more.
In addition to the film’s release, the official soundtrack is also available for streaming worldwide!
The first album, pictured on the left, contains sixty-two tracks spanning two discs, and includes some unreleased music from the likes of Lupin III: Part 4, Part 5, and Part 6 (first disc). It also features re-used music from each of those series, along with the 2019 CG animated film, Lupin III: The First. In similar fashion, the Cat’s Eye music (second disc) includes re-used tracks from the anime, alongside a new theme song, and arrangements by Fox Capture Plan.
The second single release, pictured on the right, includes the film’s theme tune, which is performed by popular pop singer / songwriter, Anri (Eiko Kawashima).
For those wondering—we still do not know the health status of Yuji Ohno, who was admitted to hospital during March 2022. We should not speculate, and believe he is alive and well. Regardless, it is clear that his output has slowed since the health scare—understandably so. We are wishing him all the best!
Click here to check out the film if you’re living in the United States—and for those elsewhere, search Lupin III VS Cat’s Eye on your local Amazon website (apologies I can’t link them all, as there are so many)!
Hitomi, Rui, and Ai are sisters and cat burglars. They steal a painting from a museum around the same time Lupin the 3rd appears to steal another painting himself. Both paintings are part of Michael Heinz’s series titled the Girl and the Flowers. To the girls, the paintings are clues for their missing father's whereabouts. When they learn Lupin is after the same target, a fire lights inside them.
